Title: Gay students feel excluded by 'homophobia' around sport'
Subject: homophobia leads to no participation in sports at Universities.
Newspaper: Arts London News
Article is written by: Billy-Jade Thomas

Summary

Two thirds of gay students feel excluded from taking part in sport at university, according to a new report issued by the National Union of Students. There were 845 Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) students interviewed for the out in Sport Survey, one in seven named homophobia as their main reason for not participating in sports at Universities. Only a third of the LGBT do participate in the sports. Most of them hide their sexuality from their teammates. The homophobia issue should be tackled at schools. NUS once did a report about homophobia in sports. This campaign has been backed by gay sport stars, as a result teams, staff and sport facilities are LGBT-friendly. The report also encourages schools to teach LGBT inclusiveness in sports.

My opinion
In my opinion nobody should not feel out of place. There is no reason for people to shut other people out based on religion, sex, rase or other weird reasons. We are all people, we all stand for something that makes us unique. I was shocked by the numbers in this article, I thought this was not happening anymore these days. I think it is a good thing that NUS wants to tackle the homophobia in sports by writing articles, so the LGBT students can relate to this article, it shows them their are not alone. But also on the other side make people aware this is still going on in sports, like me for instance I really did not know this was going on. I love the fact that the NUS report encourages schools to teach LGBT inclusiveness in sports.
